The Sift Mobs in Minecraft — Sifters, Blubs & Bosses

Every known Sift mob in Minecraft: the Sifters (Nesters, Sprouts, Blubs), the three bosses, and which ones are coming to the main game.

The Sift's confirmed mobs fall into two groups: the Sifters, the dimension's native inhabitants (including the named individuals Nester, Sprout, and Blub), and three bosses — The Monarch, the Sculk Monstrosity, and the Harmonizer. The Sifters are not hostile in the base game; they turn hostile in Minecraft Dungeons II because illagers invade their dimension and plunder its resources and souls. This guide covers every confirmed mob, who's who among the named Sifters, what each boss is known for, and how the tides system ties the dimension's wildlife together.

First, the usual caveat: the Sift debuts in Minecraft Dungeons II (September 29, 2026) and reaches Java and Bedrock in 2027 — no exact date yet. Mob stats, drops, and spawn rules for the vanilla version have not been published, so nothing here invents numbers. Where Mojang hasn't said, we say "not yet announced."

The Sifters — the Dimension's Natives

The Sifters are the intelligent native species of the Sift, and they're the emotional core of the dimension's story. The name itself — "those who sift" — mirrors the dimension's own name, and their fate drives the plot of Minecraft Dungeons II: illagers invade the Sift, plundering its resources and souls, and the Sifters fight back.

Their behavior depends on which game you meet them in:

  • In the base Minecraft game, Sifters are not inherently hostile. The vanilla version arriving in 2027 has been presented with the Sifters as the dimension's peaceful-to-neutral inhabitants — the default assumption is that they are not enemies you must fight.
  • In Minecraft Dungeons II, Sifters are hostile — but for a story reason, not a design flavor. The Illager High Council's invasion of their dimension turns them against intruders. You're not fighting aggressive wildlife; you're fighting a displaced people defending their home.

That distinction matters for how the dimension will likely play in vanilla: the Sift is set up as a place with natives you might coexist with, not a combat dimension like the Nether.

Nester, Sprout, and Blub

Three individual Sifters are named in the official material:

  • Nester — one of the named Sifter characters appearing in the Dungeons II storyline.
  • Sprout — likewise a named individual from the reveal material.
  • Blub — the standout: Blub is confirmed to be coming to the vanilla Minecraft game alongside the Sift in 2027, making Blub the first named Sifter players will meet in Java and Bedrock.

Mojang has not yet detailed what roles these individuals play mechanically — whether they can be befriended, traded with, or recruited. Nothing about taming, breeding, or trading has been announced, so treat any claim about "how to befriend a Sifter" as speculation. What's clear is that Mojang is using named characters to make the Sifters feel like a civilization rather than a mob type.

The Three Bosses

The Sift's boss lineup was confirmed at the Minecraft Live 2026 reveal: The Monarch, the Sculk Monstrosity, and the Harmonizer.

BossWhat We Know
The MonarchConfirmed boss; regal naming suggests a ruler-figure among the Sift's threats. Combat details not yet announced.
Sculk MonstrosityConfirmed boss; tied to the sculk that pervades the dimension — the same corrupted sculk said to originate in the Sift. Details not yet announced.
HarmonizerConfirmed boss; the name continues the dimension's sound-and-music theme (Lullaby Hills, Singer's Meadow, Echo Den). Details not yet announced.

Honest limits: Mojang named all three but hasn't published attack patterns, health, arenas, or loot for any of them. Those details will surface closer to the 2027 vanilla release, and in the meantime the only place to fight them is Minecraft Dungeons II.

The naming pattern is worth noting though. Every confirmed boss name fits either the royalty thread (The Monarch) or the sound thread (Harmonizer), and the Sculk Monstrosity anchors the dimension to the sculk family players already know from the Deep Dark. Whatever the fights end up being, the Sift's bosses are clearly designed as expressions of the dimension's identity — not recycled Nether-style brutes.

How the Illager Invasion Changes Everything

The Sifters' hostility is a plot variable, not a fixed trait. The storyline confirmed so far:

  1. The Illager High Council first discovered the Sift and learned to open portals to it.
  2. Illagers invade the Sift, plundering its resources and harvesting its souls.
  3. Their staff-wielding leadership — including the Grand Illusioner, whose staff can tear dimensional rifts — escalates the conflict.
  4. The Sifters, displaced and attacked, become hostile in the Dungeons II timeline.
  5. Back in the overworld, refugees from Squid Coast establish Brave Haven, and the ecological damage from the Sift's exploitation begins to threaten the Overworld.

In other words: if you fight hostile Sifters in Dungeons II, the game is deliberate about whose fault that is. The 2027 vanilla version hasn't announced how much of this storyline carries over — that's one of the biggest open questions about the dimension's console/PC debut.

Sift Tides — the System That Shapes Mob Encounters

The Sift's signature mechanic is the tides: three types of cycling conditions that change how soul collection and movement work in the dimension. While Mojang hasn't mapped tides to specific mob behaviors publicly, the system frames every encounter: the same expedition can play differently depending on which tide is active.

Practical implications for players:

  • Timing matters. Unlike the static Nether or End, the Sift has a state that changes — plan expeditions around it once the vanilla mechanics are detailed.
  • Souls are a resource thread. The dimension's lore centers on soul harvesting, and the tides directly alter soul collection. Expect mob encounters and progression to interweave with that economy.
  • Details pending. The three tide types haven't been individually named in confirmed material. Anything more specific written today would be guesswork.

If you want to meet these mobs today, the legitimate route is Minecraft Dungeons II on PC or Xbox (day one on Game Pass). The mod route — covered in our Sift mods guide — uses fan-made recreations like Mielon's The Sift, which are unofficial and not Mojang content. And for how the Sift's natives compare to the mobs of the dimensions you already know, our dimension comparison breaks down all four.
